What is Geocaching?

It is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants (geocachers) navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location.


There are several types of geocache, the most common are:

  • Traditional cache - The geocacher obtains the final set of coordinates directly from the cache listing.
  • Multi cache - One or more sets of coordinates are given in the listing. Geocacher has to visit these places to aquire the final coordinates.
  • Mystery cache - Geocacher obtains coordinates by solving a puzzle or finding a piece of knowlage. This type of cache can also implement elements of multicache.
