Josef Voldřich

 

     Born in Vimperk in 1956. He completed his MSc. study of applied mathematics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University Prague in 1980. He achieved scientific degree CSc. at the Mathematical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in the mathematical analysis field in 1987. His advisor was prof. Kufner. In the period 1981-1985 he was affiliated at the Department of Mathematics, University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. In 1985 he was awarded by the section for scientific and professional literature of the Czech literary fund. During 1985-1995 he worked for Central Research and Testing Institute of SKODA Pilsen as a researcher. He was dealing with development of FEM software for the concern SKODA. After the embargo for the similar software packages import had been overruled he specialized on problems of extreme loading especially for nuclear engineering and power industry. He is the author of large computations of strength and lifetime for a set of construction parts of the upper blocks of the reactors VVER 440 and VVER 1000 for SKODA JS Inc. In recent decade he is dealing with mathematical modeling of some problems of transport engineering, facilities for radioactive waste safe transport and storage, and problems of terminal ballistics in nuclear energetic. Since 2000 he is in the head of department at New Technologies Research Center, University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, and since 2015 he is its vice director for R&D. He participated in solving LN00B084 research project supported from the Ministry of Education CR.

     Professional activities since 2000 in mechanical engineering

- Participation in the vibration and noise analysis of the MQ200 gearbox for the development department of SKODA Auto Inc.,

- author of the drop test evaluation of the SKODA 440/84-M basket of transport and storage container CASTOR for the spent nuclear fuel for SKODA JS Inc. and concern GNS, cooperation in the development of the basket, author of the strength part of the documentation for its licensing in Germany,

- participation in solving actual problems of flanged connections and socket joints for the VVER reactor class upper blocks including problems of new technology for sealing of this joints by rings from expanded graphite, that was developed by SKODA JS Inc. and implemented in a number of nuclear power plants,

- performing analysis of dynamic effects of a large airplane impact on the reference transport and storage containers, coauthor of the overall analysis of hypothetical terrorist attack to the projected interim storage of spent nuclear fuel in the Temelín nuclear power plant location,

- cooperation in the qualifying of problems of brake disc heating solved by the New Technologies Research Center for the development department of SKODA Auto Inc. and for the research department of Volkswagen AG in Wolfsburg,

- participation in solving actual problems of mufflers of exhaust systems for the development department of SKODA Auto Inc,

- author of the essay Brakes, thermal and thermoelastic analysis published in Encyclopedia of Thermal Stresses,

- author of software for the nonlinear vibration analysis of bladed disks with friction contacts between blades.

 

    Further he authored or coauthored 142 closed research reports on mechanical engineering and applied mathematics. He is the author of cca 70 reviews for the Mathematical Reviews of the American Mathematical Society.
